Oquirrh Elementary will . the celebrate Festival of the Arts with a variety of special guest artists. The Hopa Dancers will demonstrate folk dancing, Glen Sacos will show creative movement and drama, and Oquirrh teacher, will Dean Mednick, demonstrate some of the musical instruments he has made. In addition, the students will see demonstrations on rock polishing, oil painting, and model building (by a model professional builder). The German Folk Dancers from BYU will also be featured. Other activities of the week include a movie produced by the fifth grade, and a melodrama performed by the fourth grade. Arts and crafts demonstrations will be given at various times, and art displays will adorn the halls. Students at Westland Elementary will have a wide variety of choices of art demonstrations to view. The art forms will include dancing, painting, the art of paper folding, and arts and demoncrafts. . The strations will be given using talents of the school's teachers, custodians, staff, and principal. Activities will begin Tuesday, Wednesday, and Friday at 1:10 p.m. and on Thursday at 10 a.m. Parents and friends are welcome. Majestic Elementary took a somewhat different approach to the Festival of the Arts. They decided to spread the activities over the entire year. Several "hands-on- " demonstrations presented by talented teachers during the week. Among the planned displays and demonstrations are printing, weaving, and optics. The fourth grade will also perform a recorder concert April 22 at 10 a.m. The Tso Family will perform Navajo chants and dances on Friday, April 24. Also featured that day will be a baton twirling group under the direction of Penny Knight. In May, the school will have Utah poets and authors as special guests as a continuation of the Festival of the Arts.
