Banana the the clown presented program. A luncheon was served by the PTA, under the direction of Joyce Seals. The theme for the event was "Hearts." Four hundred were in attendance. Birthday club meets at Ferguson home -MIDVALE of Members the Birthday Club met at the home of EAST Armitta Ferguson for a social evening. Attending were Blanche Rosenhan, Velma Bird, Elrena Nielsen, Libby Bowden, Leona Yates, Gertie Weiland, Mable Wilson, Evelyn and Rose Colebrook, Laveder. Special guests were Marilyn Judson and Sally Nevers. Prizes were won by Laveder and Mrs Bird. The chimp was accompanied by trainer, Bob Pratt. During a question and answer session about the chimp one of the scouts asked the trainer, "What is the toughest animal you have ever trained?" "My kids," the trainer answered. Happy said farewell to the group with a terrific Tarzanyell. The chimp is available to entertain for groups or birthday parties for a fee through Hogle Zoo. For a while it was thought that Happy might be the last trained chimp in Utah because of the In ternational Endangered Species Act, which was designed to keep endangered species from l)eing captured from the wild. It sounded good, but ended up in a situation where no one could have a chimp without a permit from the government and the government was not issuing permits. This meant chimps could not lie bred in captivity because a permit was not available for newborn chimps. As it was against the law to have a chimp without a permit, this really put the chimpanzee on the endangered species list as far as availability to zoos. This law has loosened up a bit and an open permit from the government for one applied for. year can This applies only to captive chimps.
