Olson noted that only two years after which reapportionment doubled the tax base, Salt Lake County Commission is considering a 17 percent salary increase, which would bring a 2 mill jump in the tax rate. SCHOOLS T Hills-Finland- Altara, opening at 11000 S. 850 E., Sandy, and the small elementary be converted to headquarters for Valley High, the district's night high school which is currently housed in the old administration building adjacent to Jordan High. Altara will also absorb students from the Willow Creek Mesa area from Sunrise and ease crowding at Sprucewood Elementary, which currently has the largest elementary enrollment in the district and is receive students from Monte Vista, Terra Linda, and Westvale, Westland Elementaries. Riverside Elementary, under construction at 8650 S. 1250 W., West Jordan, will be assigned students from Majestic, Westvale, and South Jordan Elementaries. Since the school is not expected to be finished before January 1981, plans are to have Riverside students attend school on double sessions with Majestic students in the Majestic building until the school opens. No other double sessions are ex-- pected to be necessary next year. However, some student transfers are planned on the east side to relieve crowding and to fill schools in the East Midvale area. for four additional . The school will be built with the last of the funds from the recent bond sale. The change will mean Bingham's school day will consist of 10 periods. Seniors and juniors will begin school at first period and end school seventh (7:30 a.m. to 1:49 while p.m.), sophomores and freshmen will begin school fourth period and end school tenth (10:15 a.m. to 4:34 p.m.). There will be four lunch periods. Students will be allowed to register for six classes, one or more which could be released time and a seventh period would be allowed only if the need were shown or there was space available. Students approved for a seventh period would have to provide their own transportation one way. A Police to lease building Riverton City Council voted to lease a portion of a building at 12662 S. Redwood to the police department. One councilman was absent and Mayor Lowell White cast the deciding vote. Riverton is negotiating with owner Briant lease which will give Hansen for a long-terthe police five offices and a squad room in the building. m Public hearing scheduled Draper City will hold a public hearing on Dec. 28 at 6 p.m. in the city hall to decide if the community development funds will be released to the Draper Park Association. No patrons were present to make comments for or against the changes. The changes will go into effect for school year to accomthe 1980-8modate the new Oquirrh Hills and Indian Hills middle schools. They were approved as proposed by Director of Student Services, Vern Clegg, but with one revision. The new proposed western boundary line for West Jordan Middle School will be extended from 3200 W. to 3600 W. A Marines seek toys for tots The U.S. Marine Corps Reserve will be helping Santa with their annual Toys for Tots program. People are asked to leave good, usable toys, no longer needed, to any city or county fire station before Dec. 19. It is very important to have all complete toys boxed or sealed up so the parts do not get lost or mixed up with other toys.
