Show THE SENTINEL CuBverSoini Dad ptrodyces mole PP and EC Mizto effioirtt odd There are those of us that go our entire lives without feeling the butterflies, knowing the down right terror at times, or the joy of performing some skill before a crowd of people, even a little one. But, come this Dec. 10, one 11 year old Riverton boy will get the chance to do his thing before some 78,000 people. The above statement is not meant to make young Darren Butterfield anymore nervous than he already is. Heaven forbid. His mother says he's always been the nervous type. Darren, the son of Mr and Mrs James D. Butterfield, is like thousands of youngsters across the country, who take part in the annual Punt, Pass and Kick competition, with one exception, Darren is going to Denver, Colo, on Dec. 10 to e of a compete at the Broncos football game. And judging from his reactions one half-tim- would guess that he won't notice the change in attitude. He's already a mile high. "I never thought I'd get this far," Darren stated, "and I've never played in front of a crowd any bigger than a hundred people or so. I don't know what I'll do in front of all those people at Denver. The Denver area level of action is the fourth such level of competition Darren has taken part in since last Oct. 10. First he started off at a dealer level involving youngsters from the south end of Salt Lake County; followed by competition at a zone level Oct. 14, which brought kids together from all over the Salt Lake area ; and finally the Salt Lake district level on Oct. 21, where young people from all over Utah, parts of Idaho, Wyoming, Arizona, and Montana competed. If Darren is victorious at Denver, he will advance as a western region ,5. W- r v to 251. Darren, however, will not be going alone to Denver. Both parents will also have their ways paid to Denver to join him. And some friends of the family are going over as well. Darren, an avid little league football once thought player, basketball was his sport, but no more. It would apear the football bug has permanently infected the lad, who says he wants to continue with it right up through high school, college, and hopefully the pros. The young man says that of the three, punting is his best area of competition. His longest punt, 105 feet or 35 yards, not bad at all. But, he does well enough in the passing and kicking to get him, at least this far in his fourth year of USE THE TP: WANT ADS Lf the Opening of o Brand New. In his last competition, Darren had to wait for the results of a similar competition in Great Falls, Montana to know if he would be going to Denver. But, he won out 267 participation in the program . "I think Darren is more excited about the special "Night with the Broncos" banquet they're holding the night before the game than he is about the actual competition," his mother added. "That's where he'll get the chance to meet the Bronco players; they're his favorite team." And who might be his favorite Bronco? Darren says it's Rick I Upchurch. Besides an area level trophy, Darren hopes to bring back one more thing from Denver: the slug of Bronco autographs his friends have requested. If he's smart, he'll sell them. Even I'd pay good money for a Rick Upchurch autograph. )' JL- at West-Mo- rr k - &r ScC i WcyiSst-Mor- r v. 7200 So.
