High School's baseball team got what a lot of us winter weary working folks would like about now: an early spring to Las Vegas. But, Jordan wasn't there to gamble or even just to soak up some sun over the past weekend. They came there to play baseball, meeting two of the best from the Las Vegas area in four tough games, in which Jordan won only one. The Beetdiggers got a rude send off to the southland when last Monday afternoon, American Fork dealt them a 4 loss, however. Doug Neve started on the mound for Jordan and went three innings, while Roger Fitzgerald and Bryce Taylor went two each in relief. Jordan's first game in Las Vegas matched them against Eldorado High School and produced Jordan's only victory of the trip, when they took the contest Bryce Taylor pitched a four hitter for the Beetdiggers and gave up only one earned run and no walks, throwing just 68 pitches and striking out five on the afternoon. Jordan's six runs came off 12 hits. The following day, though, Jordan found themselves dueling with Nevada's top ranked high school baseball team in Valley High. Jordan had just four hits in gaining their four runs, but it was the most any team this season has been able to get against Valley, which won the game with seven runs of their own. Doug Neve and Mitch Swilor handled the pitching chores for Jordan in that contest. Jordan's third game sent them back against Eldorado for a second time and became a classic case of missed opportunities, as on two occasions Jordan had the bases loaded and no outs, but failed to score. The final score en- sun-brea- k 6-- 6-- ded up 4 with Roger Fitzgerald going the first three innings as pitcher for Jordan and Mitch Swilor finishing 7-- up.
