Mrs Stevenson was born and raised in Mt. Pleasant and is a graduate of Snow College and of the University of Utah. Lorin Wheelright, dean emeritus of the college of Fine Arts, BYU, gave an informative talk to members and their families who attended the banquet May 21. Dr. Wheelright spoke on "Marketable Creativity". He said that there were four points to remember when writing, painting or composing that would help the work sell. They were seeing, or actually perceiving and understanding the subject; thinking, using your own unique background to think about the subject; saying, learn to speak as one would to a friend, and selling, finding your market or in some cases making a market for your creative efforts. He summarized his remarks again by using the words, see, think, say, and sell. Dr. Wheelright brought examples of some of his taped albums. They included exerpts from speeches made by famous visitors at BYU through the years. Mrs Emily Hammond Richardson, state president, presided at the meetings. Phyllis Park was chairman of the convention. Winning a second place award in children's songs was Betty Allen, Cottonwood. Ora Pate Stewart placed first in this category. Awards for other categories were given at the luncheon meeting on May 22. Mr and Mrs David Wayne Smith Sandra Sorensen and David Wayne Smith were married May 20 in rites performed in the Manti LDS Temple. A wedding dinner was served in Manti.
