Many of the classes gave reports on Using a Mexican theme, students at Midvale Jr. High spent the Festival of Arts week learning about Mexican culture as each of the departments did their share in providing the atmosphere. The home education class made tortillas and took them to several people to taste. On Thursday the cafeteria staff made a real Mexican lunch which included burritos, enchiladas, and tacos. The fun lunch was enhanced because of the colorful decorations put up in the cafeteria to go with Mexico. At the "Spring Achievement" meeting a short film on Mexico and dancers from the Lucero Ward, under the direction of Richard Gomez, provided the atmosphere needed. During the business session the following winners were presented in the Reflections contest: literature, Cindy Ball, Cheryl Peterson, and Sue Vincent; Art, Sue Vincent; courtesy contest, Anna Marie Gutierrez, Jeff Judd, Julie Okerlund, and James Hughes. Mrs Eldon Fletcher, chairman of nominating committee, read the names of those nominated for PTA officers as follows: Mrs Lee Folkersen, president; Prin. Jordan, Orem, Provo, and Granger went into the finals in the afternoon session with Jordan receiving first place ranking, receiving 60 points from all six judges. Mexican fiesta in the offing for Sandy school students - SANDY A fiesta is planned by fifth graders in Sandy Elementary Tuesday, May 10. The students, who have been studying all about Mexico, will be having dances, songs, and a dinner, all pertaining to the country.
