The dinner party was for husbands as well as each year nearly 1,500 children under the age of five lose their lives in traffic accidents. Many of these lives, the council said, could be saved if parents would place their children in child restraint systems instead of letting tbrm ride unrestrained in motor vehicles. Child restraints, according to the council, provide the same protection for children under the age of five that ordinary safety belt systems provide for adults. Ordinary safety belts, the safety organization said, are unsuitable for very young children, since, in a crash, the belts themselves might do heavy damage to a child's fragile body.
