Show There has to be a better way : With all the talk about devaluation of the dollar, ternational finance, prime interest rates, and all the other things that seldom touch our lives, time should be taken occasionally to see just what inflation is doing to you and me. Recently a friend had surgery serious surgery. He is better now, physically, bat is more than a little upset about his doctor and hospital bills. His insurance, which he has paid faithfully and painfully for many years, will pay only a fraction of the cost, leaving him with the bulk of both hospital and doctors' costs. Our friend calculates that if that doctor does two operations a day his earnings for the year would total more than $1 million. Let's face it, nobody EARNS that kind of money. Ordinary people with ordinary earnings cannot afford to pay the kind of medical bills that make other people millionaires in a single year. Let us make it clear that we are not talking about local doctors, who are more realistic in their fees and are the first to admit that medical costs have risen unreasonably. They have told us so. People are unable to get into hospitals when scheduled because there are not enough beds, so costs continue to rise without justification nor consideration of people. Lest everyone despair, let us say only that some local people have been having ideas for holding medical costs down. Too much premature talk could spoil the whole thing, so we shall say no more now. The Midvale office, like most small offices, never lets a backlot accumulate, and each day's mail is cleaned up that day. This is not true in the big offices, which want to get bigger and eliminate the small offices. All that move will do is increase the backlogs and decrease the service.
