Consolidation of the county planning, zoning, and building inspection departments, which the Sentinel last has since degenerated week proclaimed to be into a morass of politics which already threatens to overcome any good which could come from the consolidation. Commissioner Philip Blomquist, in charge of the departments, has apparently failed to recognize the fact that the people of Salt Lake County voted overwhelmingly last fall against any and all forms of consolidation. Consolidation was one of the chief issues in the election, an it was soundy beaten. And the people who were pressing for consolidation were also soundly beaten. We can't help but wonder what kind of pressure has been put on the winners to make the such avid proponents of consolidation. They had better ignore the pressure and recognize that they are betting on a dead horse. There has been a lot of talk and newspaper ink this week on keeping the new department "out of politics." Please commissioners, don't expect the people to believe that sort of boloney. We all know that when a change of administration comes and it will come this deparlment head will be without a job, and this will be a fat political plum, just as all department heads are. specific unit, he received specialized jungle training with the division.
