I was shocked in August of 1987 when I called to find out about the Jordan football team and was told to contact Russ Thompson or Marc Hunter as Al was in the hospital and that he had leukemia. , With, Russ's help I covered Jordan that fall and was pleased, when Jordan beat Springville in a playoff game I attended, to see Al there, although he had to be helped by two of his players to go up the stairs to the press box. I talked to Al this past spring about the baseball season and was pleased to hear of the improvement he was making. This past fall I saw three of Jordan's football games and noticed the improvement. Jordan finished in a three-wa- y tie for first in their Region and, based on a flip of the coin they were seeded lost, third, necessitating a trip to southern Utah for a playoff game.
