Shopko Stores Now Open In Area MURRAY. New Shopko stores in four Green Sheet area communities held grand opening ceremonies yesterday - (Wednesday) with contests and festivities continuing through the coming week. The stores are located in Murray at State; Sandy, 2165 E. 9400 South; West Jordan, W. 9000 1553 South and Taylorsville, 5800 So. Redwood Road. Stores also opened in Ogden, Layton and Provo. Each store is 94,000 square feet and has resulted in about 1,800 jobs. Construction began last fall. 5959 So. p features Shopko shopping for name brand items for the entire family, says Gene Bankers, Shopko vice president. Quality and value with name brands at discount prices are the store's hallmark. Categories run from toys, housewares, sporting goods and records to beauty aids, automotive, fashion and fashion accessories. Each store boasts a pharmacy and optical center. Banks said the stores are proud of their return policy as well as free layaway. The grand opening celebrations will include drawings for prizes one-sto- "no-hassl- e" such as .trips to Disneyland, Lake Tahoe or Transylvania (Bucharest, Romania). Other prizes include gift certificates, a car, bicycles and portable television sets. On Sept. 24 costumed characters will be giving away free balloons, candy and I.D. tags to children. From Friday through Sept. 21 a Coke and a hot dog can be purchased for 25 cents in all ' Shopko parking lots.
