Since the finale of the state high school championships, Alta area baseball players have wanted it. Saturday and Sunday they got it. To them, it couldn't have come at a better time. Alta moved back in front to stay in the fourth on RBI singles by Hymas, Bret Alvey and McQuivey. Alta finished with a run in the sixth off doubles by McQuivey and Matt Bradshaw. It was back in late May that Taylorsville picked up two wins over previously unbeaten Alta to take the 4A gold trophy. In American Legion play, Alta got the chance to square things with its old nemesis, winning 4 Saturday at Winski Field to hand Taylorsiville its first tourney loss and force a second title match Sunday. Alta won that It took a top of the eighth grand slammer on Saturday by Jeff Jensen - 1x21 in previous tries at the plate -to turn things around. The round tripper boosted Alta from a 1 deficit to the 4 advantage and kept its title hopes alive. Alta unleashed a it barrage in the contest, but was limited to just five runs by some solid defense on Taylorsville's part. Ryan Brown, working in relief, also pitched well the last four innings. "The kids might've been a little tight going into the game," said Taylorsville mentor Barry Sceili," after losing on Saturday. "But that's not an alibi or an excuse. "They were hoping for another crack at Taylorsville in the Legion finals. This takes the monkey off their backs." . Jensen certainly nailed down MVP honors in Saturday's game, but on Sunday, one could make a strong case for Troy Hymas. Hymas pitched all seven innings for Alta, averaging one hit per inning. He also drove in a run. Alta opened with a run in the top of the first, Dave McQuivey singling then scoring later on a throwing error. Taylorsville moved ahead briefly, tallying both its two runs in the bottom of the third. Ed Yack was safe on an error, stole second and third and scored on a single by Doug .
