LAURA CHRISTENSEN . , Year. At 11 :00 a.m. on Friday morning Laura receives a telephone call that a stop sign near a Sandy school has been knocked down and' damaged. Within an hour Laura has a City repairman on the scene. But the sign is in need of repair and will take at least a day to fix. Working through lunch and many phone calls later, Laura locates a new sign. Before the school children are out of school the new stop sign is in place. , .. , each. It begins to snow late Sunday afternoon. Leaving the scecond half of the TV game, he is at the City shops dispatching the snow plows. With the plows in the street, he patrols the streets, dispatching plows and sanders to critical intersections and streets? A call comes in from a resident who is concerned because she Just slid through an intersection near her house and is afraid the next car will not be as lucky. Within a short time the intersection is plowed and sanded. Water Technician. Innovation and help more people. U iA mm.- Stan recently recommended that all Sandy City Police Cars be equipped with push bars, battery jumper cables, key unlocking tools and gas cans. Because of this equipment, Sandy police officers are now helping stalled and stranded motorists. In addition, accident damage to Sandy Police cars has been reduced, because push bars better protect the vehicle in a collision. Brent has been personally involved and committed to the historic Sandy revitaliza-tion- . Brent organized the readdressing of the historic Sandy area to county coordinates, the registered successful establishment of a historic Sandy as a historic district and the establishment of a Historic Preservation Commission, always working with the local . Sandy City has over 2700 fire hydrants. Recognizing the problem that many of these hydrants are obscured by shrubbery, debris or other obstructions, and could be difficult to locate in an emergency. He worked to initiate the Program and already hydrants have been adopted and scout and community groups have cleaned up around scores of others. 250 WALLYREID Sandy City Building Inspector. Recognizing problems before they occur. - San- During the last week, when much of Utah was being flooded many Sandy homes could have been affected. Gary had sandbags in place and all storm drains cleared before the rain even began to fall. DONARENDS to save time Last winter, Rick became very frustrated in helping Sandy home owners with frozen water lines. Private contractors had to be hired at considerable home owners expense. Rick devised a method for using portable steam rlpaninff enninmpnt with a snerial at- tachment that he invented to thaw the frozen lines. Dave, as the City's traffic engineer, has for five years' personally pushed the State of Utah to develop and implement school zone standards to assure the safety of our children. This year the Legislature finally passed a bill establishing these standards. His personal effort and dedication were, recognized by the Legislature as they passed this bill. In 1985, Bruce was selected by his peers for his application of personal computers to create a distributed processing environment with the City's large main frame computer. CECIL BRUTON :: I i li Streets and Flood Control Manager. New Approaches to Old Problems. Snow removal, chuck holes and flooding are everybody's pet peeves. Many streets were frequently missed as plowing and repairs were randomly assigned and nobody knew who was responsible. Cecil by using personal computers, implemented control and scheduling procedures generally used .only by large cities elsewhere in the country. Now each snow plow driver and repair crew has defined, prioritized routes and when a street is occasionally missed, Cecil knows who missed it and can immediately dispatch them to take care of it.
