Show Thursday, December THE GREEN SHEET 6B 19, 1985 Midvale Society Names Leaders School Volunteer Nets State PTA Honor LAKE. Mike Larsen, a volunteer at Bella Vista elementary, is the recipient of the State PTA's Friend to Children Award. The honor was given to Mr. Larson, a Cottonwood Heights resident, last week during a state PTA meeting. Since 1981, Mr. Larsen has been working with the children of Bella Vista and other elementaries in Jordan School District in the computer program. In fact, he set up the program for Bella Vista. Last year, for instance, he taught seven classes at Bella Vista and at several other schools. He also maintained his studies at Utah Technical MIDVALE. New officers have by the Midvale Historical Society. Maurine C. Jensen has been named president, Laura Cerrone is vice president, Lois Ray is secretary, Ruth Miner, treasurer, Thelma Anderson, corresponding secretary, Vella Jones, museum chairman, Alta Miller and Carol Kemp, directors. The society joined with city officials and friends in honoring outgoing Midvale City Administrator David Jorgensen at a reception Tuesday. Jorgensen is the retiring president of the Midvale Historical Society. Vella C. Jones was also honored for her years of service to the society and to the museum. been named SALT V - $ :; ? College. In addition to volunteering at and studying computer work, he teaches at Cottonwood Heights Community Recreation Center where he is employed as night manger. "Mike spends many hours each week working with and loving children," reports a spokesman from Bella Vista. "Most important of all is his ability to relate to kids. ' ' "There is a tremendous rapport," the spokesman continued. The kids respond to him with a simple 'Hey Mike! ' but behind the greeting there is a world of love, friendship and respect that seems to have developed between him and all of the students." Mr. Larsen was hurt in a hunting of accident years ago and his brain was destroyed. He says, "There have been some changes in my life because of the accident in addition to my having trouble walking. Before I was usually tops in spelling but now I know the word is wrong but I have to think about spelling it."
