Dr. J. L. Borsch was the operator.. Sharp is a tailor by occupation. Some time ago he fell from a trolley car on his head. Sharp's eyesight was greatly affected, and at the time it was feared that he would become totally blind. Dr. Borsch, who has made many experiments with radium and studied the properties of the element in this country and abroad, was called in consultation. He found that Sharp could not distinguish objects clearly when placed in close proximity to his eyes He could tell the difference between light and darkness, and he knew when a hand was moved before his face. Curved tube? containing radium of various activities were applied. The first tubes held radium of only 240 intensity. This and other tubes with radium of more powerful intensity was experimented with until an intensity of 20,000 was attained. After this tube, which, like the others, was wrapped in cotton to safeguard the' subject against being burned, had been in place for two or three minutes was removed, in response to Dr. Borsch's queries Sharp said that he believed he could see better. Within a short time before he left the office he was enabled to identify and read huge black letters on a card from a distance of fifteen to twenty feet. A second application of the radium was made afterward. The benefit derived by Sharp is understood to be per- manent. singular and strange curative pow- ers that could not be properly at- tributed to the chemicals contained In the water that bubbles and boils from the ground like a small river. The owners of the springs and scientists have recently discovered radium In the waters and a sample has been sent to New York Jot analysis. II. II. Iluckwalter Is au- thority for the statement that ra- dium in vast quantities exists and that it is from this mineral that the healing properties of the springs are naturally derived. .0 (S) () () 0 () () ( () 0 () 00000000000 (i) u Thursday, Friday, Saturday Price Advantages WE These Splendid Undermus-lin- s Have of Regular Price Taken Off PRACTICE Womeiv'i Night Drosses, SI. 85 to $10 OFF THESE PRICES.
