Whereas, On the 6th day of January, 1904, Amasa L. Gleason and Thomas A. Brighton were killed by a robber on Thirteenth East and Sec- ond South streets, ia Salt Lake City, Utah; and, "Whereas, On the 7th day of January, 1904, certain rewards We of- fered for information leading: to the apprehension and conviction of the murderer of said Gleason and Brighton and for the capture of sald.mur- derer. amountingin all to the Bum tf 5220O, and Whereas, Each and all of the undersigned have participated in th capture of J. M. Shockley, tba murderer of said Gleason and Brighton, and In furnlshinsr information leading to the apprehension and probable conviction of said murderer: and, Whereas, The widows and orphans of said Gleason and Brighton are need of financial aid; in destitute circumstances and in urg-enNow, therefore, in consideration or the' premises we, the undersigned, do each of us hereby relinquish and release all right, interest and claim in and to each and all of said rewards, upon the condition and express understanding, however, that the sum of $100u of said rewards be paid to the widow of said Amasa L. Gleaon and Conductor Brighton, will go to the families of the murdered men, except $200 which Prothero will keep. to that effect was An agreement drawn up and signed at the penitentiary yesterday afternoon by Prothero, the informant. Chief Lynch, Capt, Burbidge, and 'Detectives Chase and Raleigh. Prothero was told that the wives of the murdered men were almost destitute, both being left with large families, and he was asked if he would! relinquish his right to $2000 of the money if it would eg to the families; he receiving the re maining $200. He acceded instantly to the request, saying he would be only too glad to be of any service to them. Even after he had agreed to do A.his he was told that he could claim the rewards if he wished, but he insisted that he would rather see the widows get the money. County Attorney George Westervelt then d. ew up the agreement and everybody signed it.
