The members of this mediation will meet in about four days. committee President William Seallo. and I'. Augustus Heinze have both sijrn:'ed th 'ir to the committee to discuss the settlement of the issue;;. As a result of the decision of Mr. Scal-lo- n to reject all the terms offered liv i!r. Heinze, many of the idle miners are' b avins? the city for Wyoming ami British Columbia. Mr. Sc dlon's announcement is n interpreted to mean that the if of long duration, and no relief is in fcisrht. Little, it is believed, can result from the efforts of the mediation committee. Millions of dollars are involved in the issues between Mr. Heinze and the Amalgamated Copper company aul the situation is such that the courts of last resort must settle th- - conflict. President William Senllon yesterday Issued another lengthy statement' the public on the situation. The state-to ment severely criticizes the cours- - of Mr Heinze and John MacGinnlss, and declares an attempt is bein made to despoil the Amalgamated Copper company of its Interests. Augustus Heinze, when asked by the Associated Press early this morning what he had to say in reply to the offer of Thomas W. Lawson looking to a settlement between him (Heinze) and the Amalgamated Copper company, said: "The people of Boston and the stock exchange there and In New York know Thomas W. Lawson so well that it Is hardly necessary for their benefit to characterize- - his statements. The dispatch which I hat e just read in which he states that I demanded $7,000,000 for all of my property in Butte is entirely without any foundation in fact. I would hot for an instant consider any communication of a business character from him. And as I have never in the past mentioned any figure at which I wculd sell my interests in Butte and have a number of times refused twice what he says in his dispatch I demanded from him, it is almost a waste of words to say anything further about his message." The mediation committee plan to bring about the opening of the Amalgamated mines nd smelters, inaugurated by Great Falls people, has resulted in an arrangement for a meeting .between the committee named and the heads of the copper corporations in Montana on Thursday afternoon or evening in Butte. A telegram was received last evening by President Strain of the Great Falls Business Men's association from President Hill of the Great Northern saying he would be able to be in Butte Thursday afternoon. thereafter telegram? Immediately were sent to Messrs. At a special meeting of the Mill and Smeltermer.'s union of Great Falls last night a committee consisting of Edwin Young, Jot.ph Shuler, James Lithsow, F. A. Varnum and Luther Fney wr;s appointed to meet with a similar committee from the Butte Miners' union at Helena toe'ay. The committee goes with instructions to consider any measu's that may be deemed advisable to bring about :n early resumption of the Amalgamated company. The committee uoes especially instructed to urge Gov.
