T Smoldered All Night and Gained in Extent During Day; Stiff Breeze Fans Flames to Large DEATH ENDS SUr The northeastern section of Salt Lake is obscured by a heavy canopy of smoke from an immense brush fire raging in the mountains between Dry and Red Butte canyons. The fire started late last night in the lower part of Dry canyon, smoldered through the night and gained in extent all this morning. Panned by the Wind. When the stiff breeze sprang up this afternoon the fire raged fiercely, burnof brush and ing over nearly 500 acres small timber between 1 and 3 o'clock. Considerable anxiety is felt by residents in the northeastern section of the city, for if the wind should spring up strong from the east, many of the suburban homes would be in danger. The fierceness with which the fire swept over the parched area of the Red Butte range attracted much attention in all parts of the city.
