CO. . 0000000 Unusually Large Attend ance at Opening Session of the Big Commercial Congress. ORGANIZATION. Two important add. sses are to be delivered this afternoon, and tho rest of the session will be devoted SEATTLE, Wash., Aug. 18. The lourteenth annual session of the Comercial congress, which convened in this city this morning, started out under the most favorable auspices and promises to be one of the most notable gatherings in the history of the organization. The attendance is unusually large, there being delegates in. attendance from every State and reTerritory In the gion and from Alaska and the Hawaii an islands. Large delegations are pres- ent from Oregon, Colorado, Texas and Louisiana. Pine Convention Site. The convention hall in which sessions of the congress are being held is the Leschi Park exposition hall on the shore of Lake Washington, some two miles from the center of the city. Through the open sides of the building the delegates can look out upon the the beautifully kept park washed by snores of the lake, and across it to the firs heavy forests of mighty Douglas d and beyond that to the summits of the Cascade range, with Mount Ranier towering above in inspiring giandeur. Addresses of "Welcome. The morning session of the Congress ortoday was spent in perfecting the adof the in and delivery ganization dresses of welcome and responses thereto. These include welcoming addresses by Gov. Henry McBride for the State, Mayor Thomas J. Humes for the city, and Judge Thomas Burke for the commercial organizations of the Northwest. Irrigation and Good Roads. The addresses scheduled for this afternoon are "Immigration and Its Distribution," by Hon. Thomas Richardson of New Orleans and "Good Roads," by It. W. Richardson, secretary of the National Good Roads association. At the close of the afternoon session of the congress the visiting delegates will be taken for an excursion on Lake Washington, a fleet of a dozen steam launches having been chartered for their accommodation.
