EOTJTHWEST CORNER LAST PAGO. v-t..- -- rr-r- v.a. j .......... ..... V MOFFAT TUNNEL MAY PROVE A GOLD MINE say enough gold from the ore extracted to pay the co?t of boring It is what the Denver, Northwestern 5c Pacific of ficials expect to find in the proposed tunnel through James peak. An official sai that some line indications of gold bearing ore had already been discovered and that the company felt confident of striking some rich veins while boring throush the range. Anticipating this leaturo of the big project the officials have; protected themselves in obtaining all rights to the claims which will be encountered and have provided for the discovery of valuable minerals while the tunnel is under way. They have been reticent in discussing this phase of the question until all of these rights had bn n obtained, but now they admit that Is true. Some time ago a party of prospectors attempted to take- up claims on the top of the peak, but it was found that they were acting in violation of the law and the claims were abandoned. These men. however, were thought to be attempting to block the road Instead of searching for minerals. Other prospectors, however, who have lo. ated claims in the vicinity bavs found ample- indications of gold to make them believe that a new camp is among the probabilities when the road reaches that point. The tunnel for some distance will go through a solid wall of granite, but beyond that point there is no way of telling what will be encountered. Mineral experts who have been sent there by the company say, though, that if all past experiences do not fall that some immensely valuable veins will be encountered before the contractors have d of the way through, the gone peak. i ( Intntrr Nft. J. II. Price, the Philipsburg man, formerly a resident of Butte, who has attracted attention in the medical world and furnished a subject for columns of newspaper stories, was in the city today. Mr. Price is noted as the man who annually sheds his skin, a phenomenon unheard of in medical circles. It is about time for him to have his annual separation from his cuticle, which is due July 24th, and he returned home today to be ready for the strange event. He has shed his cuticle at public exhibitions in this city on several occasions and pieces of his skin have been exhibited here more than once. When asked why he did not allow the shedding operation to takep lace here again he said it was necessary for him to return home today. L'trVt Ter 4i-rc- ht TACOMA, Wash., July 20 T). O.
