This first congress was sponsored by the United Poets Laureate International and brought together 75 outstanding poets from throughout the world. Poets from six states represented the United States. One of the highlights of the meeting was the presentation of an official gold laurel wreath to Mrs. Ann Woodbury Hafen in recognition of her service to poets and poetry. Dr. Hafen was invited to crown her with the wreath. No experience since their trip around the world in 1955 has travel seemed so rewarding, the Hafens report.
