He then returned to the United States where he served a hitch before being sent to Vietnam. Although he has served in three wars, he has not received any gunshot wounds. However, he was hurt while serving aboard a ship during World War 11. The ship he was aboard was attacked by a Japanese plane and in trying to get be-low deck, he pulled the hatch down on top of his head, knocking himself unconscious.
