Show DEDICATION SET AT BRYCE CANYON VISITJMENTER The Five County Organization of Southern Utah will sponsor the dedication de-dication of the new $250jOOO visitor center at Bryce Canyon National Park, Supt. Louis W. Hallock announced an-nounced this week. Under the direction of Chairman Rudger C. Atkin, the Five County Organization will coordinate the Activities of local nrirani7ntinn tnrl the National Park Service in preparing pre-paring the dedication program and providing for the accommodation of the 5,000 visitors expected in the park on June 18, the dedication date. The Five County Organization is composed of officials of Braver, Garfield, Iron, Kane and Washington Washing-ton counties, and was organized to help in the development of Southern South-ern Utah and to increase visitor services ser-vices in the area through the cooperation co-operation of the five counties. The Bryce Canyon National Park visitor center was constructed as part of the Mission 66 program of the National Park Service. Mission 66 ':s the ten-year program by which the National Park Service plans to provide adequate facilities to accommodate the number of visitors vis-itors expected in the national parks and monuments by 1966, its 50th anniversary. The new visitor center, located near the park entrance, provides interpretive information and .orientation .orien-tation for visitors before they visit the viewpoints. Among the services made possible by the center are exhibits ex-hibits explaining the geological story of the Bryce Canyon formations forma-tions and describing the plant and animal life of the park and its his- torical background, a synchronized tape and slide show presented at 15-minute intervals through the day to help visitors plan their stay in the park, and year-around operation opera-tion of an 'information desk with ranger-naturalists on duty to answer ans-wer questions for the park visitors. Speakers for the dedication ceremony cere-mony will include officials from the Washington, D.C., offices of the Department of the Interior and the National Park Service, and prominent promin-ent Utah officials and individuals. |
