I, too, was once an "Ugly Duckling." The tears I shed on my pillow as a girl because of my homely, face and awkward body would fill a couple of rivers. Everybody told me I looked like my men Dad,, one of the homeliest who ever walked ' this earth. I fancied that the kids at school didn't like me because of my "Ugly Duckling" appearance. Later in life I found out how mistaken this was. The kids didn't like me because I didn't like them. It was as simple as that. Deep in my heart I feared them. They were normal, me abnormal, so how could I fit into their way of life? I stayed alone, hating myself and the world. And every time I looked in the mirror I blamed my face for my misfortune. What a foolish thing to do! I have since learned that true and lasting beauty comes from within and, even though homely, we can do much to improve our appearance, provided we wish to spend the time, patience and money.
