But each yeai- hundreds of teenagers get hurt physically and emotionally as a result of wild joy riding and parties that get out of hand. V: - 1 r? Parents at Glenbard Township High School in Glen Ellyn, have found a way to cut down 111., the dangers without cutting out the fun. They stage an party for their children that is wholesome, yet such an exciting "blast" that no boy or girl wants to miss it. When the prom itself ends, the youngsters-so- me 500 strong swarm aboard a "midnight special" for an overnight train excursion to a camp at Lake Geneva, Wis. In one car, a four-piecombo plays for dancing; in another, there are snacks and soft drinks (but no liquor). By the time the train arrives at Lake Geneva at 6 a.m., there is more cat napping than dancing going on. But the teen-agebounce back fast-Wita few minutes after they tumble out onto the scenic campgrounds, they are ready for a round ofactivities that includes church services, swimming, boating, a vaudeville show, and plenty of eating. Adults are aboard the train and at the camp, but they are carefully chosen parents whom no one would call by that poison word, chaperone. The party breaks up in midafternoon, and the chartered train takes the students home, heady with memories of a fabulous affair.
