Gosh, we don't over-ru- n by deer, or run over either, or maybe get gored by some of the horny ones. Anyway, laying all jokes aside I can say this, that of any game fcommissioners tell me that the deer herds are increasing faster than decreasing 1 have another story to tell them, and can prove ' it to be a fact.' It may be true that in some southern. localities deer are plentiful, but here in the Timpanogos District deer are all but wiped out. Ten years ago there were 10 deer to every one of today. Why one day during winter a few years ago we counted 80 head on a bare ridge here, and 39 head camprd just across the river from our store for a week. They were often seen in our yard, and in our pasture. We had a young cedar treej in our yard and the deer took to pruning the twigs off it and one day I pulled a bed cover over the tree for its protection, but next morning at daybreak there were three deer feeding-wittheir heads under the bed cover. But those were the sporty days To have so many deer company was a thrill. It is not alone the increase in hunters that is wiping out our deer herds, but the privilege they arej given by our laws to slaugh-- i ter and waste which in turn encourages more and more hunter.; A few more punches like those of the recent years and we'll be wondering where the last deer of the range has gone to. The deer slaughtering situation is just like everything else. getting badly wantj to be CITY - to Quit Iowa Post After 1963 Deer 'Slaughter' Greatly Reduces Herd In Timppnogos District, Claim$ Wildwood Man Well soon the deer slaughtering days are here again, and I understand that, the wild life law makers claim there :are still too mihy deer in the hills.
