Utah DAILY HERALD PIER ANGELI DENIES SHE KIDNAPED SON Accused Young Slayer Proves Problem Witness Garcia, the youngest person ever accused of first degree murder in Utah, was on trial for the knife slaying of fellow inmate Leroy J.- Verner, 21, Chicago, in a prison attic last Aug, 24. "I was playing cards. I'll stick to that alibi," Garcia told the jury. Garcia, who referred to law officers as "cool cats," denied he had ever said he had hid in tha attic, that he held Verner' s legs, or that he stabbed Verner. A bored expression pi ay ed across Garcia's face as he propped one leg up in front of him while sitting in the witness stand and at times closed his eyes. At one point he propped both feet up in front of him and slouched even further into the witness chair. This brought a reprimand from Judge Joseph G. Jeppsori, who told Garcia "There is no excuse for this kind of conduct." Garcia argued with the judge, saying "It's all hearsay." Finally, Garcia complied with Jeppson's instructions to the extent of putting one foot back on the floor.'
