Transtrum, at general supervisor-agriculturthe U. S. Steel !plant, said today. Resulting from extensive plant research at Geneva, the paper indicates that low concentrations of atmospheric fluorides, typical of those found in the vicinity of modern industrial plants, do not affect the respiration of plants growing in the area. The study notes that some researchers have produced char- - plants to sufficiently high fluoride concentrations, depending on the sensitivity of the plant under study. However, it .makes clear that the fluoride concentrations required to produce this effect ' on most plants were very high in comparison to those that might be found in the atmosphere around modern industries. The paper, "Effects of Atmospheric Fluorides and Various Types of Injury on the Respiration of Leaf Tissue," was prepared by Mr. Transtrum, Dr. A. C. Hill, supervisor of agricultural research al Dr. M. R. Pack, plant physiologist; and W S.
