Nestling deep in the woods of northern Wisconsin, it was our "Summer church" for vacation for many years. I shall always remember the sunny Sunday mornings we worshiped there, with the waters of Pitchfork Lake lapping musically up on the shore ' just outside our chapel. The church bell called us for devotions. , Families in vacation clothes, girls from a nearby camp, Indians from the inland,, and Summer resort staffs trooped into the chapel, which was like the outdoors itself. Winter enclosures had been taken down, and the screened sides were all but wide open to the wind and the sun. Campers made up a small improvised choir. The preacher was from a Chicago church. A college girl played the piano. Old and young joined zestfully in songs and prayers; the collection went partly to the caretaker, partly to missions overseas - It was a - folksy, relaxed meeting, with a picnic lunch to follow and lots of visiting back and forth. , It toned up our whole vacation. We had left home with the half -- formed notion of dropping church, along with work and household routine. That idea was psychologically bad, for it associated; church with duties and chores. Conversely, worshiping at the "Chapel in the Pines" tied up our good times with Thus we started to "take God with us on vacation." It has paid off in happier vacations because we have been stimulated in mind and spirit, and the voice of conscience hasn't had a chance to complain about a "vacation from church." With our nation at peace, employment at a new high, and people more vacation-minde- d than ever, many millions will soon be setting out for "Destination Fun, Frolic, Adventure, and Pleasure."
