Watkins W day reported to Utah county offi cials in a letter that money problems have arisen which will delay thej construction of the nine-mi-le access road from the Utah county line to the chemical depot in Tooele county. , Lack of sufficient appropriations from congress to construct the road is the main factor hold ing! up the project, he said. But the "senator stated that he felt confident that the appropri ation of 315,000,000 for the defense road construction program which is pending before the war department, will be approved by congress before October and thus make the funds available for the construction. The nine-mi- le road, which would be a continuation of the road by Fairfield, was recently, approved as a needed defense road. The road was deemed necessary so that Utah county residents could be employed at the chemi cal depot and9 have a shorter traveling route. The road ha's been estimated to cost around. $200,000, and an attejmpt was made to secure this money from a $10,000,000 allocation1 for the construction of these defense access roads under the Federal Highway act of 1950.
