Show DAILY HERALD I Cougars, Cowboys Tilts Match Roy MwqM Ciw $0osr i The Brigham Young university basketeers will face quite a when they tangle with the challenge this weekend two-gam series, starting tonight in the Wyoming Cowboys in a Utah fieldhouse. And, how, well they meet' that challenge might go a long way towards determining how much success they are going to have in defending their Skyline Six championship. It is a foregone conclusion that Wyoming, currently atop: the conference standings, is a mighty rugged ball club. Even Coach JEv Shelton of the Cowboys admits he has a whale of a team. It also can be taken for granted that Wyoming will go into the BYU series ready to explode a barrage of baskets in the Cougars' faces. It was the Cougars who handed the Punchers their only defeat of the season and to date. Haven't Forf otten You can bet the 'Pokes haven't forgotten that licking, especially since it came on their home court, Coach Shelton and his boys don't lose often at Laramie and what is more it really hurts their pride to lose on their "half -- acre" court. So they'll unquestionably be spoiling for a fight come Friday and Saturday nights. But, if the Cougars are right they should give the Punchers all the fight they want and then some. However, the Cougars will have to be at peak form, the same kind of form they showed at Laramie a couple of weeks ago and In the first game up at Logan last weekend. If the Cougars are not at top form, it probably will be a rugged and long series for both them and their fans. It is almost certain that the Punchers will be ready. If they aren't, it certainly will be surprising. And, if both teams are playing up to par. basketball fans are going to see a lot of basketball this weekend when the Cougars and Cowboys tangle. Cowboys Run " This year's Cowboy basketball team is not only one of finest yer to represent Wyoming Hut one of the school's runningest, most colorful and dynamic quintets. Personally, this writer can hardly wait to see Moe Radovich in action. In fact, ever since the season started I've been waiting to see him. Those who have seen him play this year say he is a terrific hook shots basketball player and that his running, from the corner are really something to see. He also is a great driver and a fine set shot artist from outside. He is the real sparkplug of the team. Anyway you look at it, the Ute fieldhouse will be no place for a person with a weak heart Friday and Saturday nights. rip-roari- ng - two-nig- hard-drivin- g: free-wheeli- hot-shooti- ng two-nig- - one-hand- ht ed Cox Named To Head Trao, Club 500-pou- nd - NEW YORK, Jan. 19 (U.R) The basketball bribe scandal threat ened to become nationwide today with police pressing their in the fixing hunt for higher-up- s of Madison Square Garden games. Both tonight's and Saturday night's game will start at 8 p.m. and the BYU frosh will play In preliminary games each night, starting at 6:15 p.m. There hasn't been such a thing as an available ticket for this series for weeks. BYU officials claim the stand would easily pack the Ute fieldhouse. Elsewhere In Circuit Elsewhere around the circuit this weekend, Utah State is in Denver to test the favored Pioneers. But the eyes of the intermoun- tain west are on the Cougar-Cowbo- y tussle. The series matches four of the Skyline's top scorers Mel Hutchins of BYU who leads the circuit with a 17.7 average; Moe Radovich of Wyoming who is in third place with 16.9 per game, Roland Minson of BYU who is an eyelash behind Radovich with a 16.4 average and Dick Haag of Wyoming with a 14.5 rating. Cowboy Coach Ev Shelton said this road trip for his boys would be their most important test of the season. After the Cougar meeting tonight and tomorrow night, the Pokes take on the University of Utah Monday night. Utah's Aggies from Logan have a Monday night engagement wtih Steve Nenoff, the "Toledo Hatchetman," apparently has come Colorado A&M. to the conclusion that discretion is the better part of valor, at least when it comes to grappling with Gorgeous Gus, the wrestling bear. Last Monday. Steve, who prides himself on being plenty rugged and mean, wrestled the Gorgeous Gus, a pretty tough cookie in the bear world, single handed. Before last Monday's match, Nenoff beat his chest, stuck out his jaw and boomed so one and all could hear: cl-e- pr "Let me at that Gorgeous Gus, I'll murder the furry bum!"
