Show '50 Support Price For Wool Nearly 3 Cents Above 1949 ' WASHINGTON, 'April' 6 (U.R) The agriculture department an- -' nounced Wednesday It will support producer prices of 1950 wool at a national aveYage of 45.2 cents a pound. The 1949- support price aver aged 42.3 cents a pound. But the 1950 support price is' somewhat lower than average prices pro-- ; ducers have been receiving recently as a result of the boom tn the world price of fine wool. Wool is one of three farm commodities which were expected to get higher support prices this year as a result of the 1949 farm act. The other two commodities re rice and tobacco. - In Hawaii, Too will encourage U. S. production of 360,000,000 pounds a year. With wool production running far below that level, the department said recently it was required to set supports at 90 per cent of parity. The announced 1950 support price is 90 per cent of the March 15 parity price of 50.2 cents a pound for wool. Parity is a level standard calculated to measure a price "fair" to farmers and alike. Runs To March, 1951 The support 'program will be carried out through government purchases of shorn and pulled wool, if necessary. The support program will run from April 1, 1850, to March 31, 1951. The department said the sched ule of purchase prices under the program will be issued in a few days. It said the price relation ship between various grades of wool will be different than last N rs non-farme- Support Regulations The law permits wool supports to be set. at from 60 to 90 per cent of the "parity," or fair, price.
