Robertson on more than one occasion has proved beyond doubt that in him there is that stuff of whjch great directors are made. He hasn't the fire of some great directors, he hasn't the military precision of Sousa, he isn't spectacular, nor does he direct to the gallery ; but somehow he has he unusual qualifications of a leader. Those qualifications, in some particulars, do not differ much whether the man is toiead an army over the Alps, through the Red Sea, or merely through the intricacies of a difficult musical number,,. It isn't so important how a man leads as it is whether he leaa3 of not. Director Robertson leads. Possessed of a soul which seems to be attuned with the finer harmonies of life, he has added to his native talent, training which enables him to recognize harmonious truth and to produce it through thecooDcration of other musicians. - A eomposer himself of sym,-'phonies, he understands the beauties one might saythe well as a 'JEiS VJSK .OOJT girls' shott'der straps persist sifr tbefe is more need bun ever for a pcriictual motion n V that young man Robertson will FC ME.'. Though Director Robertson will be directing an orchestra of young jjeople whose chief occupation is not musical drills, it Is' safe to predict that .Sunday evening the grande concert will be worth going to hear. Provo is fortunate in haying LeRoy J, Robertson in, her midst to interpret for her' people the fine things, musically, which have been produced by the geniuses of the past and present. Provo is fortunate in having the Brigham Young university, a gathering place for the talent of the western, empire. Many states will be represented among the personnel of the orchestra, but all of its members will be playing fora common cause, with a common spirit, under a common director, and Provo will be there to enjoy. ; The Utah Stake tabernacle will be packed to the doors surely for such an occasion. The tendering of the tabernacle to the orchestra, and the arranging of meetings that all may enjoy the, treat so commendable. , There is no truer way to worship than by the. sweet clear voice of music, for somehow music is the language of the soul. It is a bit of God's harmony made tangible to mortals. la -- -H ., m., - ... ' FRECKLES AND HIS FRIENDS--- ' ' ':;, KK . - ' V. V . RvRlnSM f Seeing America and Being Seen By It Queen Marie has gone back to her Balkan throne. Shortlyvbeiore she sailed from New York, the queen said: "Thia time America has.seen me. but the next time I Iwant to se America." i Really it's a bit unfortunate to be a queen, if you want a queen could do just j jto tour America. You would think-thwhat she wanted., to; ;ould see just what she wanted and jotherwisej&sercisiB rojal prerogatives. I Butfit seems 'that a queen cant see America ; she' has ito be seen by it. She can't see just what she wants to see; she must be polite to local reception committees. I It seems to usjtbatpb'ssibly America has a mistaken idea jpf how to extend hospitalityv to Visiting Tiotables. If you ;noticed some of the daily schedules of Queen Marie, while "she was in this country, you saw that on many a day every minute from 8 a. m. to midnight was take,n up by local com at : WASHINGTON TUBBS " "v V j " : ' NfcftfLN rWO UOS- - TV Kg?-- ( V0WMAx , ... There were trips to "factories, visits to museums, ban-- quets with all kinds of clups, countless receptions and a lot of other more or less tiresome ceremonies. And we didn't do all of this to entertaui the queen, so much as we did to ishow her how great we are. We were determined to impress her with our greatness, rather than be really hospitable and ' allow her to see for herself how great we are. ::v W wCMWLilH V BY CRANB . ....v. i i ent Retiring Principal on entir- BOOTS AND HER BUDDIES . 6re Of Stake Honored .dT ! ofc --Ws tV wwer By Martin A e'Miwr naw-- K C-' 6tsf Booti . rjfcOt K. niuit Ci. wifw , N ' SpecIat to The Herald) The faculty PAYSUN, Dec. members ot the Payson high school surprised their retiring principal, : Ray Monson, at h!s"bonw.; were preseatotl Progressive games, jnd 5a the,, eveuiuss entertiiinmen't inizes wer awardiHl to Miss Grflce Roe slsH'lc Gr a.nd 'oiland .
