The leaguewhich had been in operation since the 2001-0season and had nine teams in the 2007-0season, ceased operation last weekend. That came a few days after commissioner Steve Ryan resigned. Former league chairman John Hantz, owner of the Detroit Ignition, said Monday that the league is considering restructuring that would allow longterm growth and expansion. In addition to Detroit, the league had teams this season in Baltimore, Chicago, Milwaukee, Philadelphia, Newark, N. J., Orlando, Fla., Stockton, Calif., and Monterrey, Mexico. Commissioner Roger Goodell said Monday he would decide by Sept. 1 whether to fully end Jones' suspension, which wiped out the entire 2007 season when he was with the Tennessee Titans. The Cowboys play their opener Sept. 7 in Cleveland. "Commissioner Goodell told Jones that his continued participation in the NFL depends on demonstrating that he can conduct himself in a lawful and reliable manner," the league wrote in a statement. "Jones will be expected to continue the personal conduct program established for him by the NFL and the Cowboys and to avoid further adverse involvement with law enforcement." Getting Pacman back for so long, so soon is good news for Dallas. Hours later, the club had more reason to celebrate, agreeing to a three-yea- r contract extension with receiver Terrell Owens that's worth about $27 million, according to a person close to the negotiations who requested anonymity because the deal hadn't been announced. Jones could be in action as soon as today, the team's next organized practice. Jones was an elite cornerback and kick returner in his first two seasons with the Tennessee Titans, but an accumulation of arrests and legal problems including his connection to a shooting at a Las led to his suspension without pay Vegas strip club on April 10, 2007. More trouble followed, including felony charges related to the strip club shooting, which left a bouncer paralyzed. Recent revelations include extortion payments to the alleged shooter, whom Jones helped police apprehend, and a $20,000 debt repaid to a Las Vegas casino after a felony theft warrant was threatened. All told, he's been arrested six times and has been involved in 12 incidents requiring police intervention since being drafted. "The girls were able to catch some fish all by themselves," , Don Jr. said "We caught over 150 bass in just a few hours on Thursday afternooa" One of the challenges in teaching children to fish is getting them over the enjoyment hump. They must catch a few fish so they don't become bored and lose interest. Taking children fishing during the white bass run is a sure-fir- e way to get them excited about fishing while teaching them valuable skills. A white or chartreuse crap-pi- e jig (l16th ounce) is the perfect bait this time of year. Small spinners with silver blades also work extremely welL Use your imagination and see if you can find baits that work even better than the jig or the spinner. This is a great time to experiment. White When teaching children, it's important to concentrate on both cast and retrieve. White bass continually move up and down rivers or streams; they swim in tight schools and are easily visible using your Cocoon polarized sunglasses.. Locate a school and make sure your child can cast directly into the schooL I sometimes watch parents who allow children to cast their lines in any direction just to keep them occupied. When fishing for white bass, this is a mistake. White bass like shade and will hold near structure; they love current, but also enjoy current edges. Teach your children where the fish are holding and encourage them to cast to those spots. I find that retrieving jigs or spinners in a slow, deliberate manner will entice more strikes than "burning" baits or the baits. At times, bass will follow a presentation for a distance before they decide to bite. A slow, consistent retrieval speed will more times than not, attract several bass that will eventually compete for the bait. The spring white bass run won't last long. It's been in full swing now for about a week, so take advantage right now and let a child get in on the bass bonanza before it's gone for another year. .
