"We were within 15 yards of a guy that caught a dozen fish and we didn't even get a bite. What were we doing wrong?" This sentiment is expressed to me over and over each winter. So let's review a couple of ways to break the code on catching fish through the ice. It is my guess that the successful angler found the exact depth at which the fish were feeding, and he was able to du J On Fishing Finally, be observant. Notice every thing about the guy catching all the fish. Is he shaking the bait? Does he use a bobber to stay at the same depth each time? How long does he let the bait sit without moving it? Answers to these questions take you a long way towards breaking the catching code. Remember that there are those who specialize in ice fishing just as others specialize in catching giant lake trout. You probably won't catch quite as . many fish as the expert does until you become one yourself. In the meantime, d follow my advice and don't give up. There is light at the end of this tunnel.
