Up just 10-- 0 almost midway through the third quarter, the Cavemen poured it on and turned that small lead into a huge one. They eventually won 3 for their second victory of the season. American Fork couldn't wait to get back on to the field. They immediately scored on a speccatch by Brantacular don Banks. "To be honest, the 10 points at halftime wasn't too satisfying," Knight said, even though the lead was his team's first this season at the intermission mark. Perhaps Knight was a little discouraged by sloppy play in the first half , which saw his team fumble three times. "The turning point in the game was when we stopped them on fourth down," Timpanogos head coach Frank Bramall said. "If they had scored, that would've tied it." For a Provo team that has now lost 13 games in a row, they showed signs of improvement. Quarterback Warner Jarman threw for 158 yards, completing 9-- -- 17 passes.. CORRESPONDENT HERALD The Provo offense powered their way into the Timpanogos red zone four times, but could only come away with seven points. Workhorse running back Rob Argyle ran for 52 yards'and a touchdown on 15 carries and caught three passes for 66 yards. But the Timberwohres pounded away at the Bulldog defense, consistently picking up first downs after Provo g forced them into situations. "They gave us a heck of a game," Bramall said. Provo attacked first, getting return on a reverse a on the opening kickoff . Jarman kept the drive alive on cutting back and picking up 13 yards. The Bulldogs broke inside the 10, but couldn't push the ball in. A short field goal by kicker Danny Bell sailed just under the crossbar. Flags cursed both sides as the two teams racked up 158 penalty yards. The Bulldogs gave Timpanogos a gift first down on a dead-bal- l personal foul penalty as the Timber- wolves rolled to their first score on their next possessioa After Timpanogos jumped on a touchdown run ahead by running back E. J. Tumanu-vawho ran for 110 yards, third-and-lon- g 48-ya- rd 4th-and-- 9, 7-- 0 o, Provo looked to strike 1ack. But the referees caught a Provo player throwing a punch at a Timberwolf, drawing an ejection and a penalty that killed the drive. After the Provo punt, Timpanogos took 12 plays to reach the end zone. Quarterback Nate Fullmer dove over the goal line himself to take a 14-- lead with 3:32 left in the half. Instead of folding, the Bulldogs took the kickoff and quickly moved back into the Timberwolf red zone. A strike from Jarman to tight end Chad DHaenens put the ball on the line, where Argyle took it in for the score. Timpanogos felt the sting of the flags early in the second half. A penalty killed the opening drive of the half. "We had a few good drives in the game," Bramall said. "A holding call stopped us on one of them, but we moved the ball rd . iFa&.IvlI mS well." The Timberwolf punt led to the key drive of the game, where the Timpanogos defense came up with the important stop. That set the stage for Lyons, who put the Timber-wolve- s up 21-- on a run at the start of the fourth quarter. Again, Provo surged near the goal line, but the Bulldog receiver couldn't come back to 8 the ball on a pass from Jarman. Lyons dashed any Provo hopes two plays later when he took a pitch and ran straight up the middle. After breaking four tackles, he emerged touch-dow- n alone for an run. Then, with 6 seconds remaining, Kyle Beecher caught a pass to provide for the t. final score. American Fork improved to X 1 on the year, while Pleasant Grove dropped to "Our guys were ready to play," Knight said.
