By MARTA MURVOSH The Daily Herald SPANISH FORK Westside Elementary School in Springville will be sold if a May election for a $45 million bond passes. But at least 30 parents are worried that the school could be old before a replacement opens, said Mary Ann Eyres, who spoke for the families. The board considered a combination' ot the green and purple A plans and two other versions of the purple plan. The district has 45,800 students attending more than 50 . The board's decision Tuesday night on the boundaries was split 4 to 1. Ken Sorenson, board member, said he preferred the green proposal. The board selected the purple A proposal, which was the Saratoga s recommendation, but modified it slightly. i Under the new boundaries, Saratoga Springs children will remain at Meadow. Cedar and Eagle Valley Mountain residents will attend the new school in west Lehi. The board's modifications mean 50 gifted and talented students will attend Sego Lily. Other modifications will allow two families in the Carlson subdivision of Lehi to attend Eaglecrest, rather than being the only ones on the block at the new school, and" a third modification will allow Airport Road residents to. continue take effect in August when a $7.5 million elementary school opens in the Lehi area. Another elementary school in northeast Orem opened this past August. The board also selected principals for the three new elementary schools. All three men are principals at existing schools. -- , If that happens, students might be sent to several other schools in the city, said Eyres,,a Springville resident. They don't want to be split up or divided even for a year," Eyres said. "Our number one concern should be in the best interest of our children. How is that to split them for a year?" Eyres 6poke up Wednesday night at a meeting of the Board of Education for Nebo School District. The board approved making Westside surplus property, which means it can accept bids for the school and the 7.9 acres it sits on at 570 S. Main St. The district also will begin to look for a construction manager to oversee the construction of the Westside replacement near 750 W. Center Street in Springville and another elementary school near 2750 E. Skyline Drive in Spanish Fork. District voters will have the last word on building the schools when they vote May 2. In the election, they will decide if their property taxes should be raised to pay for a $45 million bond to build a total of five elementary schools and remodel several other schools. That tax increase would cost owners of homes valued at $100,000 an additional $64 a year. The three other schools would be built in south Payson, northeast Spanish Fork, and north Mapleton or east Springville. And voters would have to decide May 2 if they want to raise their taxes $11 annually to fund utilities, custodians, librarians and principals in the new schools. Westside isn't the only the board would like to sell. Rees Elementary School in Spanish Fork may be sold, said Carl Nielson, district superintendent.
