ELKS LODGE 849 GIVES REPORT FOR The year 1924 was a very busy one fur the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elk of Rravo. Ever since lt urgmiizatlon tn this city ' the lodge had worked under diffl- enltlei as It was located in such mall quarters that the public in . general really did not get the real worth of Us efforts. Therefore, early in 1921 the lodge set about to Better conditions ana gei in sue a Bhupe that It might oe auie to ac- compllsh more good than ever be-fore. As one of the greatest principles of this organisation .is the work of charity, themselves found it nec-cessary to get Into better quarters and bo. purchased the building as the Proctor Academy known and at once started the building to suit their purposes. s .... 1924 'CMOQRL' , forget kia'carea Tanrsday mmi Friday Bbrfcta. prwrMintt W kas erratluna for the "Caaw Girt" tW mock talked of prudartkm tkt U t be prrmiteA by th Elks Kk1a at" To f It-- " the . thou-tand- was"pro!)unceaihe greatesf conyen-tioof Elks ever held in the state. A great deal of jvork was accom- u plished In the convention in which plans were laid to further the work in the stute during the 'coming Mr year. Prizes were offered on the parade and some splendid features were lu tfodueed In that wonderful parade headed by I'roVo'g splendid band together' with "three other bands tlirought here by the other lodges f the'stute. TbeuOndtugftheBewhome awakened interest in the lodge and many people not of the order be-i- n nie interested and began to apply for membership In the order. Quite a large increase in membership has ben noted and today over 700 belong to the organization working and giving their means to assist- - their fellow man . 'CAMEO GIRL' PLOT IS MOST INTERESTING The plot of the musical comedy "The Cameo Girl" which, local mks are presenting at the Columbia theater next Thursday and Frklay. May 7 and .8, carries the typical musical comedy idea and atmosphere, and revolves around the search of the three chancellors of Morovia, a mythical country In EuroiK, for the heir to their "ruler-les- s ' . , ''.'.'.'' kingdom. ' Guided by a yonng'womnn as the be the cameo of Morovia. At this &he is Immediately ordered to go to Morovia,- much to the disappoint. . inent of her numerous friends and to her fiffnee, who Is willing to give her up since she Is of royaT blood; JneUk'fltally the mnsio to the finale lot Jhis Stct.iB,theJornv of a sort of goodbye, Is among the most beau ful of the whole show and is worthy of real attention from music lovers. Thousands of dollars are spent anf of sickness and nually for distress, and at no time is the deaf ear turned to those In need whetJier they ' are members of the order or not During the past winter a great many calls have come from poor people of our city for assistance which has been freely given and all this work is done quietly and without boasting. People feel that when they go to the Elks for assistance the news will not be spread all over the world and thus feel secure iu iilH'caliiiR to them for help. The Christmas tree for poor children was attended by nearly 500 children who were given candles, fruits" and a remembrance. It certainly would do the soul of any' man good" to see the children on that morning as tbey go from the Elks Christmas tree with happy hearts and smiling faces. So ffi" stwnming'up the work for the year the jretiriug officers and members feel that 1924 was a banner year" with somehting more to bulldupon. Thish we feel will be another wonderful year for,. this organization in our beautiful city. ' In closing let our appeal to the good 'people-of-oucity to attend' the wonderful show, ."The -- Cameo Girl" as you will not only be get ting your money's worth in the show, but you will be helping the cause of charity. wins the honor of painting the royal lorovian picture and comes to Morovia, discovering- - the "Cameo Girl" in the act of being crowned queen. AT this point the three chancellors discover that there has been a mistake made and the person who is really entitled to the honor is but tliat would be telling. Needless to say the discovery of the real I)riucessorqueen, makes one of the finest comedy situations in- - the whole show and all ends happily for , everj-oneas all well regulated musical comedies should.
