They don't like a CIRCULATION- - OVER 2200 OF COURSE NOT, BUT The Daily Herald is in receipt of a communication (un signed) from a person who claims to be a subscriber, in which this paragraph appears: "Why try to compete with the big daily newspapers o Salt Lake when everybody knows Provo can't support a . daily newspaper?" Of course, "everybody" doesn't know what the writer presumes everybody knows, that Frovo can t support a daily newspaper." It has been doing so for four weeks, which usually are the hardest of a newspaper's career. . Another error the writer has fallen into is his idea that The Daily Herald is trying to compete with Salt Lake news papers. Nothing could be farther from the actual fact. Salt Lake newspapers cannot give as much time, attention, and space to local Utah county news as a Utah county daily can AND DOES do. All The Daily Herald needs to grow into a daily newspaper equal to daily newspapers in other cities under 20,000 population is the consistent advertising support other daily newspapers in the same sized cities receive. If it means any - thing at all to Provo advertisers to have a daily newspaper with a large and genuine county circulation, to which to carry their advertisements, Provo can support a daily newspaper. If, however, the majority of advertisers care not whether one newspaper has practically double the other newspaper's circulation, in the city of Provo and in the county, then a daily newspaper can never live in Provo. The management of The Daily Herald believes Provo advertisers will support fairly and proportionately the daily newspaper with the much greater circulation, and it is upon this belief that we base our conviction that a daily newspaper will succeed m Provo.
