Then the department of commerce points out that we are now shipping abroad two billion dollars' worth of cotton, wheat and other farm products, which is twice the amount of the exports prior to the war. Great prosperity is facing the aix million farmers of the cotintry. The world is crying for American food stuffs. Until Russia i reorganized and its industries coordinated, and that must be some years away, the world must look to America to supply the 10,000,000 tons of grain and other farm products that Russia exported. A delightful touch of romance keeps interest sustained at high' pitch throughout. Opposite Mr. Stone appears the charming Vola Vale, whose brunette beauty makes her a figure of great attractiveness on the screen. She appears as the daughter of a wealthy rancher who left the young girl his property when he died. "The Duke of Chimney Butte" blunders into her ranch seeking work and serves as her protector and 'aide against rustlers who have b?en harassing her for months. This opens the way to many thrilling adventures which are depicted on the screen with splendid realism. "The Duke of Chimney Butte" is captured by the cattle thieves but escapes and then he rounds 'em all up and puts them out of the way, after being himself in danger of death several times. It is worse than childish to go on year after year grinding the public between the nether millstones it is vicious. The present strike is costing $5,000,000 a day, and the reward of this sacrifice is public suffering. The charge is flatly made that the average net income of 31,979 miners in the central Pennsylvania district in 1921 was $760. This means that a miner must provide for the support of his family on $14.60 a week. It may be all very well to state that the men work only d 122 days a year, which is two and days a week and therefore their rate of pay is excessive, but if these be the facts then the problem is one of unemployment rather than of wages, and it should be approached from thpt angle. An industry that employs vast armies of men for a third of each week and cannot keep them employed the rest of the time needs some kind of reorganization.
