A few months ago Mr. Thorne started a shop In the Ole Anderson building. Both places were doing a nice business, but as we all know in the winter months so many people kill their own meat that during the winter months it makes business very dull for two markets, consequently Mr. Thorne decided to take over the Atwood market He has moved all his new fixtures and stock from his former stand, and now has one of the best meat and grocery stores in the county. He has retained the services of John Atwood and Ernest Ash. TAKE8 OVER PLANING MILL The planing and cutting mills owned by A. H. Soldier ben uk legislation will be held up temporarily by the house ways and means committee until the senate has indicated what action it will take on the foreign debt funding bill, according to a decision reached by house Republican leaders today. Early enactment of a soldier compensation act was predicted officially at the White House today. Such a bill will be passed "undoubtedly and so on," it was stated. It was indicated strongly that President Harding will not favor any legislation in a soldier bonus which does not provide also for its payment. Representative Bacharacb, Republican, of New Jersey, introduced a bill today imposing a special tax of 3 cents a gallon sales and deliveries of gasoline for the purpose of paying a soldier's bonus. Such a tax, he said, would yield approximately $250,000,000 a year. It was decided at a meeting of Re publican members of the committee that the bill to prohibit the issuance securities through an of amendment to the constitution would be taktm up while the senate con sidered the debt funding bill. Hearings on the proposed constitutional amendment will begin Monday. Secretary of the Treasury Mellon will appear to discuss the measure, and he will be followed by state, city and county officials and investors in securities. Mellon is insistent that the bill be passed. It was the opinion of members of the committeo that bonus , legislation would be taken up and disposed of as soon as the securities bill was out of the way. THIS TEXAN ROPES the quarter.
