Show THE PROVO HERALD, WEDNESDAY, NOVEMBERS. J921. Good Speech Paid w.h&msy: 0; ;V i; ! By HARRISON MERRILL. This week I've tried my level best to mend my speech, and Dtesi 11 every ume 1 say a wora my syntax doesn t sound lure absurd. I've tried to drop my awful slang and let my all go hang; I've kept my trite words out of sight" and tried to keep my grammar right; I herd my clauses to their stall and make my phrases heed my calls; my adjectives and verbs I watch ; my adverbs I screw up a notch; my prepositional parade before my choice of words is made ; my hard connectives ail I view that I may make my statements true; my participles, gerunds, all, I let in proper places fall ; my complements Tkeep quite clear and make my ide's all adhere; I watch mjr speech, each word Ican. articu- iaie as rest 1 can, uut au tne same 1 heave a sigh because my speech still goes awry. I sometimes drop that final "g" and frequently say 4T for "me"; I grunt when 1 should say just yes; for "I suppost" I use "I guess"; I tangle up my verbs a bit and often I say "set" for "sit"; yet, all the same, I've started out to mend my speech. Without a doubt I can improve, I can. i Yins. I can improve m anything. I've figured xut in by gone days that here or tnereTeai gooq speecn pays. , 1 cuss-wor- I ffiV' : J i 1 ' .if Willi..! 04 four-year-o- nun h 11 Boa - B " . IF ' ds - WmEU n .1 r"'? Mr. A.
