" It seems strange to the average man why there should be such a car shortage at this time and sometimes we are led to believe that this shortage may have been arranged The fact that some roads are not so short is brought out in the loan recently made by the Salt Lake Route of some 250 to 300 'cars to another road. Assuming that the present shortage is just and regular let us consider 1.9 for a short time what else might be done to overcome such condition. a --8 The coal famine which is sweeping this State and a country has been large section of this;. caused by the shortage of cars. From all the information av&ilable the superintendent of nurses was perhaps the worst offender and yet the public can only look to the head of such, an institution when things go wrong. The public pulse feels generally that if he is on the job every day and every hour as he is expected to be he will discover these irregularities before, they reach a climax as they did last weeki when the nurses" walked out. The anxiety for the future position has perhaps entered into the conditions somewhat and the' independence on the part of the nurses Ihecause of the impending change has perhaps entered into this strike very materially. There is little doubt that some pressure was brought during the heated campaign which has just closed by the two contending factions. .The intense desire on the part of fthose in authority to retain their party control probably led them to press their party feality on others connected with the institution who did not agree with them on party lines to such a degree that the same became obnoxious.
