Apostle Talmagre Speak. of of the second Proximity Christ was the theme of an coming address by James E. Talmage. Apostle "In the sayings of ancient at least as we read scriptural them in writers, our modern translations," said Apostle Talmage, "no distinction is made between the terms 'kingdom of God' and 'kingdom a of heaven,' but we now redifference. The church is cognize the kingdom of God. We look for the establishment of the kingdom of heaven. "We as a people do not maintain any the use of the strong prejudice against term 'Mormon' in referring to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-da- y Saints, but it is apt to bring misunderstanding. This is not the church of Mormon. Mormon was a man who translated scriptural writings and then them with some of his supplemented own. This is not the church of Mormon. Neither it it the church of Peter or James or Moses or Joseph Smith or Joseph F. Smith. It is the church of Jesus Christ and the only church on the face of the earth with His name as part of its distinctive title. "This church affirms the unitv and Christ continuityall of the mission of His exages. It affirms through istence on earth, the actuality of His death and resurrection which will finally result in overcoming death for man, the Hteralness of the atonement wrought by him and the necessitv of individual compliance with His laws for the attainment of salvation; the restoration of His priesthood and the of His return to earth in the certainty near to In person as very future the rightful king of reign the earth." The WASHINGTON, subcommittee on appropriations will begin work tomorrow on framing the naval appropriation bill, which includes the administration's half billion dollar five-yeprorram for new fighting ships. Chairman Padgett hopes to lay the complete measure before the House by April 25. While there are many legislative features in the bill which will require debate in the subcommittee and later ar before the whole committee, the beginning of the fight is expected to come over the 1917 program, for capital ships. Secretary Daniels has recommended the authorization of two dreadnoughts and two battle cruisers. The navy general board contended for three battleships and four battle cruisers. Present indications are that the subcommittee will compromise between the two views and recommend two battleships and four battle cruisers. At the navy department work on the designs of the new ships to be authorized has progressed so rapidly that much of the delay heretofore experl-enrt- d in advertising for navy craft wjl be eliminated. Plans for the battleships, large and small submarines, destroyers, gunboats, supply and ammunition ships are virtually completed now. It will take only a few weeks after appropriation for the vessels is made to lay specifications before private builders. flattie CrnUer Plan. Plans for the battle cruisers and cout cruisers are also under way, but will take some time to complete. These n vessels and the class submarines which Secretary Daniels has added to his program are new types for navy designers and it takes time to work out details. An illustration of the problems Involved became known today in regard to designs for the scout cruisers. The general board fixed thirty knots an hour as the minimum speed for these eyes of the fleet. Since designers took up the task of planning the ships, however, they have hit upon a way to knot craft of enorproduce thirty-fiv- e mous cruising radius. As now planned the scouts will far outclass in speed and range of action anything ever laid down or even contemplated by any naval power. The scouts will employ geared steam turbines to attain high snow-cappe- m peed. Light rower electric drive will be provided for cruising, the high power turbine plants being idle until they are needed for a swift dash. The result will be a tremendous coal saving and great Increase of range of action without increased size. The 1917 deknots stroyers will be of thirty-fiv- e the knots speed instead of thirty-twpresent standard. Knglneering officers of the navy believe that delay In the construction of battleships 43 and 4 has been more than Justified by the increased protection against torpedoes worked out It Is confidently stated for them. that they are per cent better defended be!on- the water line than any battleship now afloat or projected. This, in addition to the speed increase is most satisfactory to construction officers who urged that the designs be held up pending the completion of experiments. by Apostle Orson F, Whitney at the morning' session of the general conference yesterday. He began by "Look not mournquoting Longfellow, fully into the past; wisely improve the and go forth into the future present with a manly heart." "The present." he said," is the offof the past and the great hook spring on which hangs the future, but it is good sometimes to reflect on the past, which is the guidebook to the present and the future." From the Doctrine and Covenants he quoted the revelation to Joseph Smith of December, 1833, shortly after the emulsion of the Mormons from Jackson county, Mo., in which the said God had told him they prophet were persecuted and afflicted because there were contentions, strife and lustful desires among them, but "that He had not forsaken them and Zlon should not be moved. The place of Zion he said had been designated and it should not be changed." "Two years after this revelation." he said, "we find the whole church once more on the move. "On August 6 1S42. standing on the banks of the Mississippi river, Joseph Smith prophesied that the Mormons would go to the midst of the Itoeky mountains to make their homes and that they would there become a mighty people." Here he read the words of the his revelation that prophet regarding the Mormons were to come to Salt Uke and the story told bv the late valley Anson Call, pioneer of Millard and Fillmore counties, of the circumstances under which the prophet saw the valley in a vision.
