An audit of fund receipts at United Fund headquarters showed $5,823.26 still missing in the Oct. 28 burglary, when $75,995.63 in cash and checks was stolen from a safe, according to a recent report by D. Ford Crandall, fund presi- dent. The missing $5,823.26, the audit report discloses, consists of $4,302.-2in cash, $756 in checks, and $765 which has not yet been identified as to whether it - is in cash or 6 checks. Mr Crandall reported that the $756 In missing checks "seems cer tain of recovery." lie explained that $566 or this amount was in personal checks written by Fund directors to pay for a recent United Fund advertisement over their signature. The remaining $190, he said, represented 14 small checks on which payment was stopped. Fund officials have a record of the persons who wrote these checks and will attempt to recover the money, Mr Crandall said. Within 12 hours af ter the burglary was reported, po 2 lice had recovered $70,172.37 in checks and $262.95 in cash) found in a cardboard box alongside a highway at approxi mately 10400 Redwood Rd.
