Show Jordan Moves Ahead CM As Jordan district prepares to open the new Ilillcrest High School, the building itself is nearing completion and the faculty is beginning to take shape, with the first 0 of key personnel being made. Expansion of the high schools in the district from two c to three is bound to produce many changes, many shifts of personnel. It is an opportunity for advancement for a number of faculty members, though it is obvious that is c "- - is not always possible to giye everyone the job he might D have selected, if the choice ha,d been his own. The board of education has done, wf believe, a creditjd , able task in assigning personnel to the key positions in the -n' district. The changes have created other vacancies which will undoubtedly be filled with equally good judgment. It is notable that in filling positions of three high school principals, three six head coaches, and 13 counselors, 12 of the these important posit jons were filled from the ranks of district teachers, and the administration found it necessary to hire only one teacher from outside the district. It is understood that this position was offered to a present teacher but declined. Not everyone, it seems wants to be a head coach, any more than everyone wants to publish a newspaper. And two men relinquished head coaching jobs because they prefer academic and administrative work to the sometimes precarious business of coachthough it would take some deep research to detering mine how long it has been since Jordan district has fired a coach for failing to win. The promotions already announced have created n other vacancies which will generate a that of involve additional number a members. faculty may The Sentinel joins citizens in congratulating these administrators and wishing tjiem success. Q. 4- The p Last Word Personals Mrs Willis Francom, Reportei Am By Vivi r, This column is dedicated to getting the most out of your husband on a Sunday in the Spring of the year when everything in the yard is ragged and some of the trees, shrubs, and perennials are frozen from a severe winter. First, of all, take him on Saturday to a nursery. Remind him of the fertilizer, peat moss, iron sulphate, aspen mulch, bug juice and other garden'ng needs, while you have the run of the nursery. "Isn't that a dear little ornamental peach in the gallon can? It would be just right near the pat.o, a distance from the cut-lebirch. "I think we'll have that," you say to yourself. "Let'B see. Three of the rose bushes didn't make it after the last frost. Thay'll have to be replanted. "Pansies , . . Well, what would any year be without pansies for small cuttings at the dinette table. Yes, definitely. "And that bleeding heart is so pretty along the north side. Let's replace that." So home we go. Now, there is the fertilizing of the lawn, dandelions to be chain-reactiopoisoned, edging on the corner lot to 45 miles of bushes to be trimmed (we know they should have been done, but there was too much office work last weekend), flower beds to spade, weeds to be Cultivated (nothing else grows so well over the winter), the peach tree to plant, the pansies to stick in, the bleeding heart to get in, the three rose bushes to replace, all old shrubs and PUBLISHED EVERY FRIDAY trees to be and the whole lawn to mow and Cptered, as Second Class Matter at the Post Office at Miavu sprinkle. Let's see, is there any UUft. under the Act of March 9, 187b thing I missed? J. PARR GODFREY, Editor and Publish And if you have a stone wall VMkly Ntanpapw tpr wlallnw. It is considered a "must" on the social calendar, and takes precedence over any previous engagement which might have been made. Washington hostesses understand this rule. White House receptions have taken on a different flavor under the Kennedy regime. For the first 4ime in history, the this congressional reception year was a "black tie" affair. This means that a tuxedo for the gentlemen and either short or long dinner dresses for the ladies are acceptable. The men, generally, heaved sigh of relief. Most of them don't own "white tie and tails." Even President Kennedy remarked that he had to rent a formal outfit when he first Came to Washington as a young congressman. Ladies, as a rule, enjoy formal attire more than do the men, I believe. On the other hand, as the president and his lady moved casually about, nodding and shaking hands as they went, they caused a minor traffic jam.
