MYRTLE OSTLER, Reporter and Subscription Agetu Santa to Greet, Treat Sandy Children at Program Dec. 23 All children of the Sandy com munity are looking forward to at least one sure visit from Santa Claus at the big Christmas cele hration to be held Thursday, Dec 23, at 6:30 p.m. at the upper Sandy school auditorium, when Santa will greet all youngsters of the Sandy community 12 years of age and under, and present them with bags of candy and nuts and other Christmas goodies. The big affair is under sponsorship of the Sandy Lions club. The Christmas program to be in connection with Santa's visit will include the presentation of the operetta, "The Magic Christmas Bell", under the auspices of The Berrett School of Dance. More than 250 children in bright colorful costume will participate in speech, song and a variety of dances, under direction of Mrs Ver-l- a O. Berrett. Santa Claus will present his treat to all the children, following the operetta presentation. The general public is invited to attend. There is can-nine- Claus treat to the children. Sandy Fourth Ward Finishes Canning Project; Hold Party Members of Sandy Fourth ward took seriously the council of the church leaders of the LDS church to maintain at least a year's supply of food in their storerooms and basements. To aid in this achievement, the ward members point to a most successful canning campaign for the 1954 season. Using the canning facilities of the church welfare square, the produce grown by the members of the ward for the canning project, was participated in by representatives of 45 families of the ward. For their own use they canned a total of 1,188 cans of pineapple; 240 cans of peas; 1,332 cans of beets; 2,571 cans of beans; 2422 cans of peaches; 3,505 cans of corn; 1,612 cans of tomatoes; 1,537 cans of o admission charge. Members of the Sandy Lions club, juice; 2.5C8 cans of pork and beans; under direction of Pres. Jackson, 2,004 cans of applesauce and 2,325 mill have plenty of work assisting cans of vegetable soup. The program included Christmas carols under direction of Mrs Margaret Astle. A Christmas story was given by Mrs Zelma S. Thompson. Sandy librarian. Luncheon was served at long tables, which were decorated in keeping with the holiday season. Those in charge of preparing and serving the luncheon were Mrs Elizabeth Nelson, Mrs Emma Jane Thornton, and Mrs Hazel Nelson. There were 35 in attendance.
