Show Garden Rites From Out Our Window I STBIOTLT I Honor Justweds POINT OP VIIW WOMAN'S - by Trudy The other day I sat impatiently in my car at a certain spot on the corner of 4500 So. and 900 East. Impatient because for almost five minutes I had been trying to break into the fast moving traffic. J : y 1 , I sat there, however, the traffic problem sudwas denly gone. In that instant my memory took m back through the years and, as a child, I was standing ' on the very same spot. But instead of traffic to cop with it was a country road and I had ust been mildly butted by an angry cowl My father was doing the night's milking and Mom had strolled along to visit with him and enjoy the cool I had tagged along, they were evening air. not paying much attention to me, ond I probably talking, got myself pushed around by "old Bossy." How tricky one's thoughts can bel Memory engulfed me until for the moment I WAS that child again and coming back to the present almost a physical effort. and someThe traffic had cleared during my one was honking td awaken me to the fact. It was with difficulty I left that long ago child and resumed today's occupations. Rationalists, I know, give this type of consciousness the name of mysticism and brush it disdainfully aside. g But no matter what name you call it, I don't think it to apologize for. Memory Is common to everyone and it comes and goes unbidden. A song, a voice, a certain perfume or odor have the power to bring back the past with a clarity that can be almost frightening. As '' f l Vt -- Kid-lik- e, Jf IP If; til Sometimes it comes back with the edge of a razor, cutting us with memories we wish would stay in the past. Hurting us again with the old pain we hoped forgotten and done with. then again memory can be "Balm of Gilead" We see again faces and voices that break the heart with blessed remembering and lift the spirit with the joy of days thai will not come again. Songs of a certain year can come over the radio and I'm 18 again, dancing under the stars with the wonder of first love in my heart. Then there's a lullaby that brings tears of nostalgia to my eyes, for each time I hear it I hold my babies again in my arms, rocking and crooning them to sleep. Memory is both one of life's blessings and one of it's curses. Every event and face in our life is recorded and kept, ready for us to take out, and perhaps regret. Sometimes they come painfully, slowly and sometimes they come as swift and unex. pectedly as a stroke of lightning. But Mr. and Mrs. Terry K.
