Deland, local police chief, sounded an alarm this week for residents to be on guard against a group of "bunko artists" who he said were operating in the area. "THKSE 31 KN usually line up with some reputable organisation which they use as a front," he said, "and they gyp people out of thousands of dollars." The chief noted the men involved with the operation had pulled a similar deal in Murray a year ago and "collected about 16,000 dollars." "ONLY ABOI'T $1,5110 of the money was ever turned over to the organization they claimed to be sponsored by, however," he explained. Mr. Deland noted the group had tried to use the Murray Police boy's club as a front, but had been stopped in this effort by police action. The present operation, according to Chief Deland, is based on telephone contacts.
